Live work conversion
Why: Our clients purchased a unit in this 1990s live- work complex, for which planning for roof extensions were obtained. They wanted to personalise it to provide for their lifestyle and needs.
The main objectives were:
1. Create a self-contained separate flat on the ground floor
2. Maximise light for each space;
3. Incorporate spaces with different uses into the square floor plan.
4. The clients mentioned they would greatly miss their old view to the garden (at their previous home, which for us became design challenge to bring green
views into the design. We secured planning permission for a two bedroom flat on ground level. The introduction of a central staircase divided the floor plan into four separate spaces avoiding the need for hallways. This also resulted in plenty of light coming in from front and back.The highlight of this project however is the unique glazed lowered Roof terrace, bringing yet more light and of course the garden in now back in view.
‘From the very first meeting we were impressed by the combination of down-to-earth practicality and out-of-the-box imaginative vision. They listened carefully to us as we described what we wanted, and then came up with amazingly clever ways to achieve that and maximize space, light, and comfort - surpassing all our expectations in terms of spatial creativity.’
