Terrace family home redesign
Why: Our clients approached us soon after purchasing the house requiring complete overhaul. Their main concerns were the lack of natural light and the existing small- enclosed spaces, which did not suit their lifestyle. They needed a light open space with plenty of guest sleeping areas.
Working together, to develop detailed brief, allowed us to prioritise design decisions and balance them against planning and budget limitations. For example, a lowered floor in the loft in place of a dormer window, created a large loft space for sleep-over kids without the added costs.
The main feature of the house is its rear extension. The house presented unique opportunity to create a large glazing element without disturbing neighbouring properties. This angled glazing, brings abundant natural light deep into the plan. The completed house instantly feels more open allowing better interaction between spaces. The open plan is defined by changes in level and built in furniture.
