Renovation of a period maisonnete
Why? Our clients wished to extend this two-bedroom converted maisonette in a Victorian house, in order to accommodate their growing family. Budget was key as this project had to be done with an extremely tight budget but without compromising on design. The main goal was to add a loft level with a master bedroom and an en-suite and to open the main living space in order to create a spacious feel to the flat. The space was redefined to accommodate a home office instead of a kitchen on the raised ground floor, open plan kitchen living room at the main floor, en-suite guest bedroom on the first floor, and a master suite plus baby room in the converted loft space.
On-site hand fabrication of digitally designed elements, recycled materials and restoration of original elements were used to negotiate between high specifications, finishes and detailing and budget limitations. Design details such as frameless and hidden doors, hidden light details as well as several bespoke elements designed and built by Scenario Architecture, helped in creating a well thought of and well designed home without the price tag. The main feature is the fire place -Focal Shift which was shortlisted for Emerging Architecture Awards 2009.
